Speech and Language Therapy

Social-Thinking Therapy and Group Programs

Social-Thinking Therapy focuses on developing and practicing innovative treatment approaches for assisting individuals with social-cognitive challenges, including patients with high-functioning autism, Asperger Syndrome, nonverbal learning disability and related diagnosed and undiagnosed social-communicative difficulties. Dependent on time and need, we also often offer group speech therapy, which focuses on developing and improving the communication skills of children with their peers, teachers, siblings, parents, and other individuals that are a part of their world. Group therapy sessions are typically comprised of 2-4 children and are also based on the principles of the social-thinking therapy program founded by Michelle Garcia Winner.

Pre-literacy Program

Our pre-literacy program is a program that is specifically targeted on emerging literacy. Students lacking previous experiences with skills such as print awareness, alphabetic principle, and phonemic awareness need supplementary instruction to ensure they do not lag behind their peers. Melissa Balthazor is an authorized provider of the Lindamood-Bell Phoneme Sequencing program (LiPS). To see more about this program visit www.lindamoodbell.com.

Cycles Phonology Program

The Cycles program (developed by Dr. Barbara Hodson) focuses on helping unintelligible children learn to use proper speech patterns so they can grow up to be successful. The concept of cycles is that several phonological processes are modified in a specific sequence and several sounds are used to facilitate the suppression of each phonological process. Children enrolled in this program are encouraged to receive therapy at least 3-4 times per week and a home program is also established.
